The Vassar Club of Boston is offering two service opportunities for the Vassar community in Massachusetts to participate in Vassar Serves, a global initiative and demonstration of Vassar’s legacy of service encouraging alums to come together and unite around the critical theme of climate action.

In-Person Charles River Cleanup Project
The Vassar Club of Boston invites you to join us for the Charles River Cleanup on Earth Day at 10 a.m. EDT to pick up litter and assist with other park maintenance tasks along the Charles River. This day of service will be part of the national project by American Rivers’ National River Cleanup®, which has removed over 25 million pounds of trash from America’s waterways.

We will be working at a site in Boston reachable by public transit. We have requested to be assigned to a site in either West Roxbury or Newton and will send more details to registrants as the event approaches. We also plan to arrange carpools in case the site is a little far from the train lines.

Important Info: Please bring your own work gloves, if you have them. Other supplies will be provided by the Charles River Cleanup Project (think trash bags, picker-uppers, etc.) The Vassar Club of Boston will be in touch via email closer to the event day regarding what to wear and how to get to our assigned work site.

Pollinator Seed Planting Project

We are offering an additional service opportunity.

The Club Steering Committee is making packets of pollinator seeds specific to Massachusetts. (No invasive alien species!) If you sign up for the Pollinator Seed Project, you will receive a seed packet in the mail with instructions, after which you get to plant them in your yard or other appropriate space in your community. All we ask is that you send us a picture of you planting them for a group montage.

We will have a limited number of these packets and will need to make them up in time to mail them to you for the Day of Service. It will be a great help to us if you register early.

RSVP: Please register for one opportunity by Wednesday, April 18.
